For the designs of the motifs on the plates, a variety of real floral blooms were cut up and put together anew in accordance with aesthetic criteria. This idea was based on a desire for a profound new ordering calculated to generate an enormous intensification of the beauty and power that flowers possess. They become super-flowers – rather like the super-heroes of our human world – with the border between flora and fauna often being transcended in the process. It is all about the joy of uniting all things. To use a mathematical metaphor, the super-flowers raise reality to a higher power. They form a super-reality – a super-verse.
